2026 Kia PV5 Cargo Van Spotted Testing, Set to Challenge VW’s ID. Buzz

Kia’s upcoming 2026 PV5 Cargo Van, unveiled at CES 2024, has been spotted testing in Germany. This electric van aims to challenge Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo with advanced features, versatile configurations, and competitive performance.

Key Features

  • Design: Simple black steel wheels, integrated headlights, and sleek daytime running lights. A large touchscreen and practical grab handle highlight a modern interior.
  • Flexibility: Available in low- and high-roof variants with rear doors opening beyond 90 degrees. A chassis-cab version is also planned.
  • Platform: Built on the Electric Complete Chassis Platform Module (e-CCPM), offering cost-effective production and adaptability.

Performance Edge

While Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo, priced at €48,215 in Europe, delivers a 262–286-mile range with a 400-volt system, the PV5 is expected to adopt an 800-volt architecture, promising faster charging and greater efficiency.

Launch Timeline

The PV5 Cargo Van is slated for release in early 2025, alongside future PBV models like the larger PV7 and smaller PV1. With its practicality and innovation, Kia’s PV5 is set to redefine electric work vans.

Flexible Configurations for Varied Needs

Kia plans to offer the PV5 Cargo Van in two roof configurations: a standard low-roof model, as seen in the prototype, and a high-roof version that promises increased cargo capacity for last-mile delivery businesses.

At the rear, dual doors with more-than-90-degree openings and an offset license plate underscore the van’s practicality. Kia is also developing a chassis-cab variant, further expanding its potential uses.

Revolutionary Electric Platform

The PV5 is built on the Electric Complete Chassis Platform Module (e-CCPM), a standardized architecture developed by Hyundai Mobis. This platform lowers production costs while delivering high performance and reliability. As a member of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) family, the PV5 represents the brand’s commitment to creating adaptable mobility solutions.

Kia’s PBV strategy includes multiple phases, starting with the PV5’s launch in the first half of 2025. Future additions will include the larger PV7 and the compact PV1, each catering to specific mobility needs.

A Rival to ID. Buzz Cargo

Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo, priced at €48,215 (approximately $52,000) in Europe, has set the benchmark in the segment. However, with its 400-volt architecture and limited range of 262–286 miles, the ID. Buzz has left room for improvement. Kia’s PV5 Cargo Van is expected to adopt an 800-volt system, delivering faster charging times and superior efficiency.

While Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo isn’t available in the U.S., its passenger variant starts at $59,995. Kia’s PV5 could fill this gap in the American market with a more accessible and versatile alternative.
