As winter blankets the Arctic Circle, Polestar’s engineers are braving frigid conditions to fine-tune the much-anticipated Polestar 5, a sleek, high-performance electric sedan poised to take on the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid.
Spotted wrapped in camouflage, the prototype hints at the culmination of years of design, innovation, and determination, with its official release now expected in 2025.

The Emotional Flagship of Polestar’s Lineup
Polestar, Volvo’s EV offshoot turned standalone brand, has steadily built a reputation for innovation since its splashy 2022 Super Bowl debut. With models like the SUV-inspired Polestar 3 and the crossover Polestar 4 aimed at families and pragmatic buyers, the Polestar 5 represents a daring departure.
It promises heart-pounding performance, a svelte silhouette, and cutting-edge technology, targeting enthusiasts who crave more than practicality.
The Polestar 5’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. Originally slated for a 2024 launch, production was delayed due to technical difficulties, also impacting the rollout of the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3. However, as the winter tests progress, the finish line is finally in sight.
Winter Trials in the Arctic Circle
During its cold-weather testing, the Polestar 5 was seen tackling icy roads under the dim twilight of the Arctic. Despite the camouflage, key design elements were evident, including the vehicle’s distinctive light signatures and large carbon-ceramic brakes with striking orange calipers—a hallmark of its high-performance aspirations.
The prototype tested is believed to represent the top-tier variant, boasting a dual-motor setup delivering an eye-watering 872 horsepower.
This powertrain is not just about raw speed but also precision and control, ensuring the Polestar 5 excels in real-world conditions.
Revolutionary Charging and Performance
One of the Polestar 5’s standout features is its integration of StoreDot’s Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology. Capable of adding 100 miles of range in just five minutes and achieving a 10%-80% charge in a mere 10 minutes, this battery innovation is set to redefine EV convenience.
While the exact range remains undisclosed, a 100 kWh battery capacity is anticipated, positioning the Polestar 5 as a frontrunner in both performance and practicality.
